Massive blue shark on light gear

This blue shark was measured and calculated at 96 lb . Sam Narbett landed this magnificent fish on the Quantum Cabo 40 reel  and a Quantum Blue spin 10-35 g. We use 40 lb braid on the reel and on this occasion used a 70 lb rubbing leader to a short wire bite strop to a size 14/0 mustad circle hook. A large mackerel flapper for bait.

FiN-Nor Bite adventures not just a shark boat!

Two couches bream caught this week every species anglers dream. Les Barns had the biggest one 6.2.0 a new Guildford city sea angling club record. It shows how rare these fish are as it’s the first weighed in to the club in its 45 year history! Les also had an even rarer fish 3 weeks ago with me. An imperial scald fish, as far as I know there has only been 4 caught in the UK in recent years and bite adventures has had 3 of them! Les was using a Cabo 40 reel and a blue spin 7-35 gram rod to catch both of his stunning fish. The couches bream was caught on a running ledger to a 8oz...

Flattyfun at Fehmarn

While comfortably leaning against the railing of the boat, we are enjoying the warm sun on our skins. We are passing the shoreline with the famous Fehmarnsund bridge behind us. It’s Sunday afternoon in late July and we are on board the Lana II. Klaus Brandenburg or “Schollenbrandi”, our captain, stops the 8-person fishing boat on a sandbank. He lowers the anchor from a height of 6 meters and it drops firmly into the sand. My American colleagues are excited. After a jam-packed working week, they accepted my invitation to catch flatfish in the Baltic Sea. My husband, Florian Hühnken, and a...

A colourful freak of nature

Tostedt. Radical and Black Cat test angler Johann Troppacher recently encountered a multi-coloured freak of nature on the Po in northern Italy. He was awoken at 5:45 by his favourite alarm clock to wake up to…his catfish alarm bells! His Black Cat rod with the Fin-Nor Marquesa multiplier reel was bent almost into a semi-circle. Fishing at a distance of around 350 metres, Johann Troppacher leapt into his boat. With his bait presented against a natural bank, he had to prevent the fish from taking shelter in the vegetation. It was a fight that would fray his nerves. Twice he had to free his line...

35 lb pike

UK Quantum Specialist Consultant Gary Knowles recently banked a new personal best pike from an 800 acre reservoir in Staffordshire in the UK. The huge predator was taken on an 8” Battleshad using a Smoke 5-55 g spinning rod and matching 2500 Smoke reel. Gary takes up the story:Although the rest of Europe measure their fish by length, here in the UK we still use weight as our yardstick, and in particular pounds and ounces. To put this in perspective, we see a 30 lb pike as a very special fish and anything over 35 lb as mammoth, a fish of a lifetime, this is a brief report on how I finally...
